Paintings 2018

In this recent work there is a contradiction between the aesthetic mimicry of post-painterly abstraction, Les Automatistes and non-objective painting, and the qualities that could describe the abject and grotesque. Like my sculptural work entitled “Language, Life, Bubbles”, the expandable foam used in my new series harnesses the power of the bubble. In this work however the expandable bubbles become frozen (like paint) into an aesthetic work. As foam expands, paint pools, mixes and drips onto the forms - actions, reactions, and influences become evident to describe how life changes and morphs.
