Troy David Ouellette, Principal Organizer
Troy David Ouellette is an Assistant Professor of Digital Media at Brock University's Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts. He is an artist/researcher specializing in Assemblage theory, technology and conceptual art. His current practice focuses on creating organizations that help creative practitioners engage in research creation and extend media art practice into the community. Ouellette is a founding member and former Chair of the London Ontario Media Arts Association (L.O.M.A.A.) and Principal Organizer of the Sound Art Innovation Lab (S.A.I.L.) based in St. Catharines. His practice dovetails with his interest in conceptual art, as his approach often involves working with organizations as platforms for social justice and for studies of environmental and cultural reciprocity. In addition, Ouellette's research often extends into how culture, technology, and the environment might interact beyond anthropocentric and economic concerns.
Tabitha Lewis, Technical Advisor
Tabitha Lewis is an experienced Educator, Program Coordinator and Technology Expert with a demonstrated history of working in Academic Makerspaces in the Professional Training industry. She is skilled in Project Management, Program Coordination, Operations Coordination, 3D Prototyping, CAD software, and Audio Production. Tabitha Lewis (BEd '19) considers herself a creative person who enjoys learning. She's a visual artist, singer and hobby interior designer. As the former Supervisor for the Brock University Library's Makerspace, she creates unique opportunities for discovery and learning through new and emerging technologies, such as audio and video production, 3D prototyping, virtual reality, robotics, and digital prototyping. Tabitha is now at Camosun College but continues to support S.A.I.L. and serve as an organizer.
Dave Legge
Dave Legg currently serves on the board at the Niagara Artists Centre and has an active music/art practice with a particular interest in experimental sound and electroacoustic technology.
Wayne Petti
Wayne brings a wealth of experience, expertise and knowledge of the artists in the region to the equation. Wayne is best known as the vocalist for the indie rock band Cuff the Duke. He has contributed to projects by Blue Rodeo, The Hylozoists, and Hayden, in addition to releasing material on his own and as part of his side project, Grey Lands. Within this shared sound space, Wayne brings his excellent production, musicianship and audio engineering excellence to the mix, and we look forward to seeing what new sonic forms we come up with.
Caleb Awinoron
Caleb Awinoron volunteers with S.A.I.L. and is a current Brock University student and musician, working with various instruments and engaging in vocal experiments. From hip-hop, lofi, rap and other forms that focus on vocal performance, Caleb seeks out these sonic expressions in rhythmic and/or rhyming speech as part of his research.
Stephen Remus
Steve Remus has been involved at the Niagara Artists Centre for over 16 years as a volunteer, board director and staff member. Creatively, he is primarily a screen printer but also works in 16mm film and video. He also has an active practice as a cultural writer. In 2009, he was awarded the City of St. Catharines Trillium Established Artist Award. Steve has a wealth of knowledge within the region's cultural sphere, with an uncanny knack for bringing people together to work toward a common goal.
Matt Caldwell
Matt Caldwell is a former student at Brock University. He works as a preparator for the Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine Arts (Brock University Gallery) and the Niagara Artists Centre. In this capacity, Matt has worked in many forms and media. Matt continues to explore his musical interests and maintain an active art practice.
Taylor Elliott
Taylor Elliott is a recent graduate of Brock University in the Visual Arts department. Taylor has served as a student volunteer for various art projects and continues to be employed by and affiliated with Brock University. Max Holten-Andersen
Cultural Advisor for Brock University and S.A.I.L.
Max received a BMus from Brock University and an MA from the University of Ottawa, with a focus on classical guitar performance, composition, and music theory. He is a guitarist, composer, and sound designer who has significantly influenced South American harmonies, rhythms, and techniques. Max teaches sound design and music programming at Brock University. He is a founding member of the Stolen Theatre Collective and the Chimichangas Latin Music Duo. Max has been a featured musician in several recordings and a commissioned sound designer and composer for theatre companies and visual artists in Toronto and the Niagara Region.
Sara Turavani
Sara is a recent graduate of Brock University with a degree in Studio Art. Although her background is in visual art, she appreciates and comprehends sound art. Sara’s strengths are social media content creation, graphic design, and creative ideation. Sara’s passion and background in visual art provide new perspectives on sound art, and she is excited to further expand her skill set and knowledge in the genre.
